چکیده

A polarimetric ground-based radar (GB-radar) system operated in the L-band has been developed. The frequency range of GB-radar is 1.215 to 1.3 GHz, which is the same as that of Japanese satellite-borne SAR, PALSAR-2 (Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar), and Japanese L-band air-borne radar, i.e., Pi-SAR-L2 (Polarimetric and Interferometric Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar L2). Polarimetric calibration was carried out twice in the field to calibrate and validate the GB-radar data. Cross-talk and channel imbalance are improved for the both experiments, and are from −13.3 dB to −30.7 dB, and from 1.06 to 1.00, respectively for the first experiment, after calibration. The calibrated cross-talk and channel imbalance values were comparable to −31.7 dB and 1.013, which were obtained using PALSAR. Radiometric calibration and antenna pattern correction were also carried out in the second experiment. Forest observations were also carried out simultaneously by GB-radar and Pi-SAR-L2 in the second experiment. The range profiles obtained by GB-radar and Pi-SAR-L2 were compared for several polarimetric parameters, namely, radar backscattering coefficient, polarimetric coherence, eigenvalue-decomposition parameters, and four-component-decomposition parameters. Both range profiles matched moderately well and showed good performance that could compensate for the limited possibility of satellite/air-borne SAR observation.

Improvement of Biomass Estimation in Forest Areas based on Polarimetric Parameters Optimization of SETHI airborne Data using Particle Swarm Optimization Method

Estimation of forest biomass has received much attention in recent decades. Airborne and spaceborne (SAR) have a great potential to quantify biomass and structural diversity because of its penetration capability. Polarizations are important elements in SAR systems due to sensitivity of them to backscattering mechanisms and can be useful to estimate biomass. Full Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture ...

Three-stage inversion improvement for forest height estimation using dual-PolInSAR data

This paper addresses an algorithm for forest height estimation using single frequency single baseline dual polarization radar interferometry data. The proposed method is based on a physical two layer volume over ground model and is represented using polarimetric synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) technique. The presented algorithm provides the opportunity to take advantages of t...

Classification of polarimetric radar images based on SVM and BGSA

Classification of land cover is one of the most important applications of radar polarimetry images. The purpose of image classification is to classify image pixels into different classes based on vector properties of the extractor. Radar imaging systems provide useful information about ground cover by using a wide range of electromagnetic waves to image the Earthchr('39')s surface. The purpose ...

Polarimetric Characteristics of Fully Polarization Sar Image Observed by Ground-based Sar System

Ground-Based SAR system that obtains a high resolution 2D image on the ground is a new type of SAR system such as air-borne and space-borne SAR. The measured fully polarimetric SAR images with HH, HV, VH, and VV were focused using the Deramp-FFT (DF) algorithm in terms of their image formation principles. SAR polarimetry technique is concerned with control of the polarimetric properties of rada...

Microwave Imaging Using SAR

Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (Pol.-SAR) allows us to implement the recognition and classification of radar targets. This article investigates the arrangement of scatterers by SAR data and proposes a new Look-up Table of Region (LTR). This look-up table is based on the combination of (entropy H/Anisotropy A) and (Anisotropy A/scattering mechanism α), which has not been reported up now. ...
